If loving band is wrong, we don't wanna be right

101907_band.jpgOk, so it’s been like eight years since American Pie came out. Can you believe it? We know, we’re so old. It was a totally different decade then. A forgotten, distant time in our culture. An innocent age when we’d not yet seen Tara Reid’s, well, pretty much everything. A time when most of us had never heard the term MILF. A time when Eugene Levy had not yet sold his once funny soul to Satan a la American Pie Presents: Band Camp. It was the nineties! What did we know? There wasn’t even Houstonist. Shhhh. It’s ok. Deep breath. There’s good news.

We’ve grown. We’ve changed. It’s time to move on. That means, it’s time, once again, for society to embrace marching bands. Enough with the “band nerd/geek/dork” stuff already! Band is cool! In fact, making fun of marching bands is downright trite. It’s as played as hating cats. It’s like Michael Vick finding Jesus, just in time for his press conference. Come on, it’s easily as silly as the whole Houston people hating Dallas people and vice versa thing. Enough already! Who cares? Just because they got a real Barney’s and we’re stuck with a Barney’s Co-Op (total b.s.) doesn’t mean the two cities should have this feud (Obvs, Houston wins, hands down.). It’s tedious. It’s tired. It’s…you got it, trite.

101907_JohnLO.jpgBack to band. We at Houstonist think it is high time we give credit where credit is due. Marching in a straight line while playing an instrument is hard, y’all. Real hard. Doing it while fire dancing or walking on stilts? Forget about it.

If being in a marching band makes a person a nerd…sign us up. That’s why Houstonist will be ALL OVER Market Square Park tonight for the March Fourth Marching Band's free performance. This thing is so cool, we totally geeked out while looking at their website - www.marchfourthmarchingband.com. M4, as they're known, is on a national tour right now and decided to stop off in Houston for a FREE performance while on their way to New Orleans. Bring your friends and family to enjoy this marvelous troupe that refers to itself as, "Duke Ellington meets Sgt Pepper in an international big-top Fantasia evoking a familial community reminicent of the Grateful Dead." Friends, there is nothing nerdy about that.

Get a taste of the funky at this FREE concert!
Friday, October 19 | 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Market Square Park, Downtown
(bounded by Preston, Milam, Travis & Congress)
