Good morning, Houston. We suppose Tex-Mex is finally official: The New York Times wrote about it yesterday in an article that looked at famed Mexican joints in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. "Neon signs flicker above pastel storefronts promising excellent Mexican food in virtually every block of the city," the Times' Joe Drape writes of Houston. "The trick is to figure out which places will deliver on that promise." Indeed. Drape visited El Jardin here, and that made us wonder: What's your favorite Tex-Mex place in town? Let us know in the comments. [via blogHouston]
>> That sigh of relief you hear is coming from The Woodlands: The Houston City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a deal that ensures Houston won't annex The Woodlands, another step toward The Woodlands becoming an official city. The deal will give Houston a cut of tax revenues generated by whatever governing body eventually forms in The Woodlands; Houston Mayor Bill White pointed to the agreement as a way area cities can work together in the future. "[The Woodlands'] residents use many of our facilities. Many come here for employment, the Medical Center, the transportation, the sports venues, the arenas. And they benefit from being part of this region," White said. In order to continue along the road to incorporation, The Woodlanders still have to vote on three propositions related to the agreement, all of which are on the Nov. 6 ballot.
>> Exxxtra credit?: The family of a Ryan Middle School student says the school's principal has been carrying on an inappropriate relationship with the boy — and officials are looking into the allegations now. According to the family, Principal Cimberli Johnson had the 14-year-old student spend the night at her house earlier this month; the family thought Johnson was married and had a teenage son of her own, but it turns out that wasn't true. Then, last Friday, the family got worried when the teen came home after midnight after being at Johnson's house. "The nature of the allegation is serious enough to be in the best interests of the children," HISD Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra told KPRC. "The district has reassigned the principal to the district office." Both the teen and Johnson say their relationship wasn't sexual; the principal reportedly said she was just tutoring the boy and realizes that having him stay over might not have been such a great idea.
>> Today's weather: Will we get tired of clear, temperate fall days? Nah, we don't think so. Good thing, too, because we're in for another one today: Look for plenty of sun, an afternoon high in the low 70s, and an overnight low around 44 under clear skies.
