Friday Afternoon Video: The Underdog

Yes, the Spoon concert isn't until next Thursday, but Houstonist is really looking forward to it, so we thought we'd bring you the Austin band's latest video "The Underdog", from their CD Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Sure, the video isn't groundbreaking, but the song (and the whole album, actually) is.

For those who aren't familiar with Spoon, where have you been? here's a little background for you. Britt Daniel, lead singer and guitarist, formed the band way back in 1993. Within a couple of years, they were signed to legendary indie label Matador records. For a short time in the late 90's, they were signed with a major label, Elektra Records. After poor sells, they were quickly dropped. Afterwards, they became the darlings of indie success, when their next two independent albums sold much more than their 90's releases. In 2005, their album Gimme Fiction was on top of many critics year-end best-of lists, making the way for their latest indie album to debut at #10 on Billboard earlier this year.

Spoon performs at Warehouse Live this coming Thursday night. The New Pornographers open.
