Robertson Stadium Set for I-45 Showdown

Houston vs. Dallas. Does anything else need to be said? Robertson Stadium, which is located on the campus of the University of Houston, will be hosting two different versions of this great Texas rivalry.

Tonight, the 2006 MLS Champion Houston Dynamo will take on FC Dallas in the second game of this home-and-home Western Conference semi-final playoff game. In the first game, which FC Dallas hosted, the Hoops took game 1 of this aggregate-scoring series with a 1-0 victory backing the Dynamo into a must-win game at UH's Robertson Stadium, but the MLS Champs wouldn't want to have it any other way.

The Dynamo thrive at Robertson Stadium and are arguably one of the toughest teams to beat with only three losses in 15 home games this year. FC Dallas will be entering into a rough territory backed by some of the rowdiest MLS fans which include El Battalion and the Texian Army. Here's a note to ponder: FC Dallas has never won against the Dynamo at Robertson Stadium. Four games, no wins and one tie.

On Sunday, the Houston and Dallas rivalry will go at it again; this time the college football version. The Houston Cougars (5-3, 4-1) take on the Southern Mehtodist University Mustangs (1-7, 0-4) in this C-USA showdown. Last year in Big D, UH overcame a 24-14 halftime deficit to defeat SMU with a 37-27 win; clinching UH's ticket to the '06 C-USA title game. SMU will be looking to play spoiler this year as they come in winless in C-USA and their head coach Phil Bennett was fired on Monday, making him a lame duck coach for the last four games. A Houston win will make the Cougars bowl eligible for the fourth time since 2003 while keeping them on track for a return C-USA title game birth.
