Kipling St. cleaned up a bit by Peter Brown
Kipling Street, just behind the Alabama Theater/Shopping Center, will be a little more flat this week. 2136 and 2140 Kipling (pictures) are set to be demolished, and the current owner of the two properties - built in 1925 and 1938 - is listed as at-large man #1, Peter Brown. While there are no apparent plans for the land, we assume that they will not be the site of a new Brown residence; his home near the recently demolished 1 Waverly Court is a residence designed by his wife's firm in 1997 that is described in the Houston Architectural Guide as a "small Parisian hôtel particulier."
Northstone grabs a couple more on the west side
The "smart luxury" builder got its hands on two more properties near the beltway, much to the surprise of the neighbors. 12507 Barryknoll in Memorial Meadows, and 12615 Pinerock (picture) in Fonn Villas will be replaced soon - and expect the replacements to look similar since this company appears to be using a few of the Rice Residential Design plans for a lot of their new homes.

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

Gee thanks Mr. Brown, thanks for the aggravated global warming by tearing down usable structures, thanks for making way for new real estate that'll be a waste of investment money in the coming recession economy, thanks for talking out two sides of your mouth about saving Houston architecture.
Whups, you just lost my vote.
SO WHAT'S THE NEW LOGIC FOR HOME BUILDING IN HOUSTON?
FROM PHOTOS I HAVE SEEN IT SEEMS THAT YOU HAVE TO TEAR DOWN A CLASSIC STRUCTURE & REPLACE IT WITH A GIANT BOX THAT CONSUMES EVERY SQUARE INCH OF THE LOT IT'S BUILT ON. THEN MAKE IT LOOK "PERIOD" "VICTORIAN" OR A STYLE I CALL "FRENCH NAUSEA" BY ADDING CHEAP LOOKING BAY WINDOWS OR OTHER CHEAP LOOKING BOLT- ON TREATMENTS TO THE UPPER FACADE.
IN A WAY IT'S REASSURING TO KNOW THAT ONE OF MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF HOUSTON FORMED 30 YEARS AGO HAVEN'T CHANGED.
AND THAT IS - MONEY CAN'T BUY GOOD TASTE ....
...OR CLASS, FOR THAT MATTER EITHER.
