Houston Mod Board members Jason Smith, Robert Searcy, Ben Koush, Michael Brichford, and Stephen Fox were included in an article in Tribeza magazine about Houston's modern architecture. The article highlights Smith's renovation of his William Jenkins-designed home in Willow Bend, and also touches on Houston Mod's mission and goals of education and awareness of Houston's modern architecture.
“It’s really a waste,” laments Searcy. “We are filling our landfills with works of art—and replacing them with houses of half the quality.” It’s a losing proposition, too. “If we don’t start working on saving these houses now,” Searcy warns, “they’re not going to be around. We’re already losing them like crazy.”

The mid-century moderns are some of Houston’s best buildings, Stephen Fox believes. “In the 50s and 60s Houston architects were involved with the modernist movement nationally, and they were conversing with greats like Frank Lloyd Wright,” he says. The resulting architecture was their way of making the city beautiful.
Robert Searcy is a realtor specializing in mid-century homes (especially in Glenbrook Valley), Michael Brichford maintains the Memorial Bend site, and Stephen Fox is an architectural historian and lecturer at Rice University (and also featured in another Tribeza article).
