New Orleans' alt-rock band Mute Math may have been named a finalist in Spin.com's 2007 Artist of the Year Award, and yeah, they might have recorded that theme song you heard in the new Transformers movie last summer, but that's not what we think makes this band cool. No, we give a spirited high-five to Mute Math's singer Paul Meany for rocking the keytar!
Meany's voice sounds a lot like Sting, but when you add some out of this world percussion and soaring guitars, you get a band that is described quite rightly as “Coldplay washing down steroids with Red Bull-Vodka,” by Spin.com. Watch Mute Math’s trippy video for their album single, “Typical.”
The last stop on Mute Math’s Fall tour with label mates Eisley is this Sunday at Warehouse Live. This should be a great show, and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away! Send us an email with your name and phone number to contest (at) houstonist (dot) com, and we'll put you in the drawing. The contest ends at noon tomorrow.
