::Elizabeth Alexander & Taha Muhammad Ali at the Alley::

Well, if the intellects are to take over a day, might as well be Monday. Leave the killing brain cells to us the rest of the week.

ELIZABETH ALEXANDER
, whose dynamic work penetrates the African American experience, is a poet, essayist, and playwright. Winner of the Jackson Poetry Prize from Poets & Writers (one of the nation’s leading poetry prizes), she is the author of four collections of poems, including American Sublime, which was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize, and a collection of essays, The Black Interior.

TAHA MUHAMMAD ALI
, a self-taught poet, is a leading figure in the contemporary Palestinian literary scene. At the age of 17, during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, he and his family escaped to Lebanon. Writing for more than five decades, Ali’s works, including his latest collection in English, So What: New and Selected Poems, focus on his childhood and the everyday realities of the Arab-Israeli struggles.
