Spent all your cash on girlie drinks and shattered dreams again this weekend, didn't you? No worries - Thriftster gives you the lowdown on cheap stuff to do until Paycheck Friday. We're making this 'multi-cultural' Thriftster week, given all the great global goodies in town for you to experience.
Monday: Catch the last night of the Polish Film Festival at the Angelika (510 Texas Ave.) with 3 shows for $10 (or $8 if you've got that old student ID handy). First show (Copying Beethoven) at 7pm, second show (The Lilpop Sisters and Their Passions) at 9pm and a bonus feature afterwards. If this doesn't set you in a sauerkraut mood for a date night at Polonia (1900 Blalock) tomorrow, we don't know what will.
Tuesday: If you're missing Trio Con Brio Copenhagen, travel on down to chat fair trade and international shopping at Houston NetSquared tonight at Stag's Head Pub ( 2128 Portsmouth St.) from 7 - 9pm. Speaker Kevin Lacobie will discuss Houston's Ten Thousand Villages boutique and Social media ideas with (free) beer-swilling attendees.
Wednesday: Okay, it's back to Poland at Anya Tish's Gallery for a Polish Art Today exhibition. Too bad you're too poor to make the $75 tag for the HMNS 'Taste Flavors of Ethiopia Cultural Dinner'. Instead, finish your evening off with ceviche and killer happy hour drinks from El Pueblito (1423 Richmond Ave).
Thursday: 4 Israeli womens' stories are told at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft's (4848 Main St.) Israeli Women's Tales jewelry exhibition. After you peruse the shiny-shiny and hit the awesome gift shop, get thee to Droubi Brothers (648 Polk St.) for some cheap falafel goodness.
