::Ken Burns' The War at the Wortham Center::
How did you spend your Veteran's Day? Did you fly a flag? Did you hug a Vet? No? Well, here's your last chance at redemption.
If you missed Ken Burns' World War II Series, The War, on PBS a few months back, you can catch it again tonight at the Wortham Center, as Burns is on hand to screen and discuss the series.
Burns' works are treasure troves of archival materials; he skillfully utilizes period music and footage, photographs, periodicals, and ordinary people's correspondence, the latter often movingly read by seasoned professional actors in a deliberate attempt to get away from a "Great Man" approach to history. Like most non-fiction filmmakers, Burns wears many hats on his projects, variously serving as a writer, cinematographer, editor, and music director in addition to producing and directing.
Program at 7:30 p.m. in the Wortham Center, Brown Theater. Private patron reception with the speaker at 6:15 in the green room. Book signing after the program in the grand foyer. Books will be on sale throughout the evening by Brazos Bookstore.
