A lot of jokes are made at the expense of the boy-girl synth and vocal duo. Granted, it has become a recipe in the D.I.Y. music scene. And sure, the charming and attractive female singer and the quietly reserved guy on the keys being relatively easy to come by, but Portland's Glass Candy is anything but formulaic. So polish those dancing shoes because these heralds of the newly revived Italo disco movement are coming back to Houston for their second show of the year.
Glass Candy features the hauntingly charming voice of the beautiful Ida No and the instrumental skills of the multi-talented Johnny Jewel. The band has gone through a few changes over the years, having started out as a no-wave act with drummer in tow and slightly altering names before settling on their current iteration. Jewel, who was raised in Houston, was heavily involved in the critically hailed After Dark compilation album, which featured a handful of Glass Candy tracks, for the Italians Do It Better record label.
The show, nay, dance party starts out with DJ sets from Jeffrey Mac (Hard Candy, Manifesto!) and Bobby DJ (Boys & Girls Club), so get ready to feel it in the morning.
