Concert Preview: Electric Six at Engine Room

261107_electric_six.jpgIn 2003, Detroit's Electric Six effectively made it okay for heterosexual males to sing about gay bars to fellow heterosexual males without opening the door for a sexual harassment lawsuit or nursing a bloody nose. Newly armed with their latest and release, I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me from Being the Master, Electric Six is ready to blow Houston's mind one more time.

"I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me from Being the Master" manages to be everything that we remember Electric Six to be: intelligent, irreverent, dark and hilarious. The album itself is a satirical soundtrack to the modern lives of the oversexed, egocentric and self-important, all of which you're allowed to laugh at. Don't joke yourself, though. It might seem like all chortles and giggles, but comedy is only half of the Electric Six equation. Combining dance beats with righteous guitar riffs, the band continues to fuse rock with disco with metal with new wave on I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me from Being the Master. "Dance Pattern" alone has one of the most decadent disco beats of the year, and "Down at McDonnelzz" is a down and dirty take on one of suburbia’s favorite, golden-arched hangouts.

Electric Six takes the stage at the Engine Room on Wednesday. The Willowz, We Are The Fury and Ladyheat open up the night.

Not quite sold? Check out a couple of Electric Six tracks on their MySpace.
