Veggie Bites: Southwell's Hamburger Grill

After stuffing ourselves silly on Thanksgiving, Houstonist vowed to take it easy on all the eating. We dutifully held our promise for a few hours, until our friend called us for lunch at Southwell’s. We don’t know whether our friend calculated that we would never turn down Southwell’s Hamburger Grill (despite binging just twelve hours earlier). Our friend, the pickiest eater we've ever known, had us at "Southwell's."

We’ve been eating at Southwell’s for years because they consistently make what can only be described as a damn good veggie burger. Now, just because we're vegetarian doesn't mean that any non-carnage piece of patty will do. This is not one of those “this must be healthy because eating it is making me depressed” dry veggie burgers packed with twelve kinds of nutritious but boring grains, nuts, and beans. The Southwell veggie burger is a glorious, slightly but not too greasy, soul-satisfying veggie patty topped with whatever fixin’s you want (we like avocado and melted swiss). It’s even better with their waffle fries or onion rings. (Are we the only ones who put fries and onion rings in our burgers?)

Southwell’s is comfortable, efficient, and casual (read: no-frills). Come in, order at the counter, go sit down at a booth or table and wait for them to bring your food. Besides veggie burgers, they also serve chicken and beef burgers for your flesh-loving friends. Oh, and you know what we love as much as the veggie burgers? The $6-or-less price tag on all their burgers.
