::Nights on Blue Bayou: DeKam vs Nalepa::
We know, we know. You're ALL gonna be at the Houstonist 2nd Burfday Happy Hour tonight at Monsoon. So why should we bother even telling you what else there is to do tonight? Why? Because, well, you gotta have somewhere to stumble to when our tab runs out.
A spectacle beneath the bridges of the Sabine Promenade on the banks of the Buffalo Bayou, this environmental light and sound installation is the creation of video artist Johnny DeKam and composer / laptop musician Steve Nalepa. A special moving mirror projection system juxtaposes DeKam's abstract moving geometries and architectural images against Nalepa's electro-ambient "Left Coast Liquid" music. Stroll around the site and enjoy an early winter evening on the bayou!
DeKam vs Nalepa is the final installment of Nights on Blue Bayou: CITY SOUNDSCAPES, a series of presentations by a range of artists from throughout the nation, presented by the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts and Buffalo Bayou Partnership. The series takes place on the banks of the Bayou, beneath the historic Sabine Street Bridge, under the stars and the downtown skyline.
Pontoon boat rides will be offered, and refreshments will be available for purchase. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged.
