Concert Preview: Texas Gone Garage Showcase

When it comes to music in Texas, we all know that Austin pretty much has the scene in an awkward and uncomfortable chokehold position. Between South by Southwest, ACL and Fun Fun Fun fests, the state capital has music festivals down to a science.

But instead of making that trek up 290 and finding the perfect seat between the broseph who can't stop talking about how cool it would be if DMB was on the line up and the chick who knows every word in the Regina Spektor discography, show some Texas pride and head down to Rudyard's for the He Said She Said Presents' Texas Gone Garage showcase. It's a massive, three-day celebration of Texas-bred music from more than 25 bands whose tastes range from 60s pop to psychedelic to straight-up punk roots.

Our own minds are blowing at the insanity that Texas Gone Garage will wreak on our fair city. There's enough music to go around, with both day and night showcases. The early shows at Walter’s, which are all ages, are a tease to the insanity that the 21+ shows at Rudz will bring. Some of our local favorites are also playing, including Something Fierce, American Sharks, Born Liars and Hearts of Animals.

Houston rocks. Who cares what they do in Austin?..and who made Austin the music capitol of Texas?

Houston is the music capitol of Texas...Austin is just strange. You can feel it when you drive anywhere close to there....

There is an evil spirit you can feel as you get close to Austin....don't know if it is because of the politicians....but it sure as heck killed Stevie. You can feel it especially on 6th St.
