New on Houstonist: Tags and custom views!

You might have noticed a couple of changes to Houstonist — and we're here to explain what they mean.

Tags
Instead of being classified by categories, all our posts are now tagged with content-specific keywords. Not only will they help you find broad subjects (like sports or music), but also specific kinds of posts (like posts about the Museum District, babies, City Hall and, oddly enough, snow). Soon, all our categories will be converted to tags except for a handful of broad categories that all our posts will fall under.

Tags show up at the bottom of every post, so keep an eye out for 'em.

Different views
121307_tags2.jpgIn the top right corner of every Houstonist page, you'll see "Full View," "Summary View" or "Favorite View" and a link next to it that says "Change This." When you click "Change This," you can choose from a few views of the main Houstonist page — Full, which shows you our list of posts like they've always been; Summary, which reduces all the posts after the first three to brief excerpts (which you can click to expand); and Favorite, which will show you only the most commented/recommended posts.

Users who aren't registered or signed in with Houstonist will automatically get the Summary View, but you can easily change your view — and that'll set a cookie on your computer that'll keep your setting until you decide to change it again.

We hope you dig the changes; if you run into any issues, let us know.
