Houstonist normally throws all of our trash out of the car window during our daily commute into town. It is so much easier than having to put the trash can on the street.
But, the holidays tend to bring out the eco-friendly version of us each year as we wrap all of our Christmas presents in the shopping bags from whence they came or in the pages of our favorite magazines. Actually our small recycling effort is due more to our desire to thumb our nose at the wrapping paper industry rather than a desire to save the planet. Who wants to spend money on something that you're going to throw away in an instant? Saving the planet is gravy.
For those of you wishing to do your own planet saving this season, the City of Houston is once again encouraging citizens to recycle as much holiday crap waste as possible. Christmas tree recycling will be facilitated at 14 recycling centers around the city. Appliances will also be recycled, but you must first email envcomments@cityofhouston.net to get further instructions.
