Concert Preview: Hootenanny at The Backroom

We mentioned it in our interview with Mlee Marie Suprean, but our favorite local music blog The Skyline Network just released the poster for the Hootenanny, which only further solidifies the fact that we have to be there.

So what's the Hootenanny? You've probably seen something like it before, but never done like this. Some of the strongest names in local music treat us to some of the classics, a treat that we'll selfishly devour.

Why? Maybe because Papermoons become Pedro the Lion for one night only. That and Blades play as Foo Fighters. Not to mention that local music maven John Sears invokes the spirit of Sam Cooke. Satin Hooks will take the stage as The Wipers. Indian Jewelery does their best Depeche Mode impersonation. Nomeansno comes back in the shape and form of The Jonx. Panic in Detroit will channel Jawbox. Not only do both Something Fierce and The Dimes (featuring Mlee Marie) play, but they'll be appropriately playing The Clash and The Pixies, respectively of course. Personally, we're looking forward to see what noise rockers L.A.W.S. do with Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Mathletes with The Talking Heads, mostly because we know that both will be magical experiences.

Actually, the whole even promises to be a magical experience. Imagine starting your year off right with a guiltless indulgence that doesn't break your resolutions, unless that is, you're resolved to stay away from awesomeness.
