::Hope Stone Dance Company premieres SEE Me::

How do we see?
Do we need sight to know the world?
How are we blind to ourselves?

Tonight at the Wortham Center, under the direction of award-winning choreographer Jane Weiner, Hope Stone Dance Company wil premeire SEE Me, .

While general admission is $25, Hope Stone, Inc. will open the 800 balcony seats free to at risk youth from local schools and after-school programs. Implicit in the mission of Hope Stone, Inc. is bringing the voice of art to low-income kids by giving children the opportunity to experience a live art event.

Based on the story of the five blind men and the elephant, the piece weaves in and out of vision, blindness, what we see, what we don’t see, what we are blind to, and the onslaught of visual stimuli that floods our eyes and senses. With a backdrop of television sets working, semi working and broken, the performance is thrown among the images these “vision boxes” create.

“We miss so much of the world being consumed with work, deadlines, electronics and anxiety – it blinds us,” says Weiner. “Who we really are is caught behind all the stuff blinding how others perceive us and how we see ourselves… that is what SEE Me attempts to capture.”

About Hope Stone
This fall also marks Hope Stone, Inc.’s tenth anniversary. Since their inception in 1997, Hope Stone has continued to offer a steadily growing number of scholarships for at-risk youth to participate in programs and weekly classes at Hope Center, the non-profit’s studio, which offers classes for kids and adults.

Hope Stone, Inc. is a threefold organization consisting of the choreographic endeavors of Artistic Director Jane Weiner; Hope Stone Dance Company, a dance and theater ensemble; and Kid’s Play, an artistic outreach venue for children and youth at risk.

Founded in 1997, this organization strives to join dance/theater in the traditional performance setting, with the teaching of art in the lives of our children today. At present, Hope Stone, Inc. is continuing its development of new dance/theater work along with the outreach projects with local children and youth.
