The Houston Rollerderby season ended in October, and Houstonist is having "DT's" - a condition in which lack of flat track action causes delusions (in which we actually think we CAN sing), nervous tic's and random verbal outbursts. We're gonna be just fine though, because there's Derbyoke in our immediate future - like tomorrow night! What is this "Derbyoke" of which we speak? Well, given that it's karaoke with, by and for HRD - it's like karaoke on steroids with cool chicks who can potentially kick your ass (at the mic, of course!). In addition to the singing part, there will be a silent auction featuring artwork from various skaters, drink specials all night, prizes and the chance to bid on your dream team (we have to check that out, it sounds like fantasy rollerderby?).
So, you can have fun, support the HRD ladies (who don't get paid, buy their own equipment and have to insure themselves against harm - just saying), make an ass out of yourself trying to sing (wait, that's us!), get your drink on, party with some very cool people and possible win stuff. The cost for all this whoop-la? A mere $5 at the door!! All the fun starts at 9:00 p.m. at the Proletariat. The only drawback? You MUST be 21 + to attend (well that can be seen as a very positive thing, just saying - no Jonas Brothers songs, no Hanna Montana). So, come on out, plan to karaoke and have a fabulous time and do not forget your wallet - you have an art collection to start/build.
