Concert Preview: The Mathletes at The Proleteriat

2007-01-16_mathlete.jpgWe have some bad news for you: Joe Mathlete is leaving Houston.

Yes, it breaks our hearts too. Not only that, but he’s leaving us for Austin of all places (insert scoffs here) and for a job (inset secondary scoffs here). But our love for Joe and his antics far exceeds our sadness, which is why we’ll be at The Mathletes’ first (and supposedly) last show of 2008.

Fresh off their killer set as The Talking Heads at the Hoontenanny, The Mathletes tout the night as one of musician after musician crammed on the Proletariat stage playing both our favorite Mathletes material and more covers than Marmaduke can shake a bone at. In traditional Mathletic fashion, you not only will you get the regular and stellar ensemble, but also Mlee Marie, Jenny Westbury, members of The Linus Pauling Quartet and the band formerly known as The Dimes and probably many, many more friends.

Along for the ride are Fishboy and Ill Advisory, not to mention a solo set by Jenny Westbury. Send off one of the best people Houston has the best way we know how: dance, drink and sing along, because those moments will be few and far between without The Mathletes around.

The Mathletes with Fishboy, Ill Advisery and Jenny Westbury
The Proletariat: 903 Richmond
Friday, January 18, 2008
Doors at 9 p.m
