• Over a dozen people have been robbed at gunpoint on and near Lower Westheimer. HPD says that the robbers approach victims with a gun, rob them of cash, cell phones, wallets and purses and a then a black truck pulls up and the robber and accomplice speed away.

• HPD has a new toy. It's a 12 ton armored truck dubbed, "The Bear" and it will be used by SWAT and can transport up to 15 fully-equipped officers.

• If you think you've got what it takes to be part of the team that rides in the aforementioned 12 ton BEAR vehicle, HPD will be hosting a job fair this weekend from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Houston Police Academy located at 17000 Aldine Westfield Road in northwest Houston.

• A head on collision on the North Freeway left one woman injured and many vehicles damaged. Police speculate a drunk driver entered the freeway in the wrong direction.

• According to AAA Texas, the price of gas in Houston dropped 3.2 cents this week. El Paso currently has the lowest prices for gas in the state.

• The weather for the weekend looks cold and rainy. Rain is expected to fall nearly all day today and clear up this weekend leaving us with colder temperatures.

Isn't there a police sub station on Lower Westheimer? Why is HPD spending resources on a SWAT truck, when they could be preventing crime 10 blocks from their station? Haven't they ever heard of sting operations and plainclothes officers?

HPD could at least throw a few bike cops down there. I bet those robbers start targeting Midtown next, if they think the pickin's are good on Lower Westheimer, wait till they discover Midtown!
