Houstonist Photo Special Edition: The Montagu Implosion

Houstonist Flickr photo contributor espngo got up early this morning to witness the implosion of the Montagu Hotel, formerly the Hotel Cotton, which was built in 1913. Cherry Demolition was contracted to implode the building to make room for a new 46-story building dubbed The Pipe Wrench.

Bye bye Montague Bye bye Montague Bye bye Montague

Here's a video of the implosion from LiveLeak.

COOL ! ANYONE WANT TO BY MY B&W PHOTOS OF
THE LAMAR HOTEL BITING THE DUST?

(KIDDING- NOT FOR SALE)

Sweet shots! Man, I wish I had known they were going to demolish it this morning. I didn't have a hangover or ANYTHING.

Link with another video angle and more commentary (where the name of the hotel is spelled Montague, idk which is right).

It's very unfortunate that it couldn't be renovated, like the Rice, and saved. *insert rant about "patio" homes*.

Please someone tell me that they at LEAST saved that beautiful fire escape!

What a sad waste of a building (and the others on the block). And it is Montagu without an E.
