Three day weekends are a beast. You end the previous week by slacking in some fashion on Friday, since you're planning all the shennanigans you'll be committing over the weekend. Then
you pick things up after the weekend with the realization that you've got to fit five days of work into four. Plus, it's cold and depressing (like a Packers fan on Monday) and that pretty much explains why a Monday feature is appearing on Wednesday. Here's what the blogs are saying about Houston sports this week.
- Yao got pissy with the media after the embarrassing loss to the Sixers the other night. Aww, our little guy's all grown up. Remember when he was first signed, and he couldn't talk to the media at all? We love hearing Yao talk; it's like Yoda, only taller and without a puppeteer's hand up his butt.
- Speaking of Houston icons, Craig Biggio has been coaching high school baseball at St. Thomas this year. We pick on the Chronicle around here a bit, but this article was fantastic.
- With the Texans' season over and the coaching staff reconfigured, the speculation about personnel moves has begun. Steph Stradley at the Fanhouse has one look, and the ever-verbose Matt at DGDB&D has another. Think of it as Crossfire, with less yelling and bowties.
- The Astros are in the midst of the most exciting part of the offseason: arbitration! Hell yes! Try to contain yourselves, people. Crawfish Boxes looks at the players who are eligible and analyzes what this could mean for the 2008 payroll.
- Here's a throwback: it's the 40th anniversary of the UCLA-UH basketball game in the Dome. The Fanhouse remembers the original Game Of The Century. Elvin Hayes v. the eventual Kareem Abdul-Jabaar in the 8th Wonder of the World. If the same matchup occurred today, Dick Vitale's head would literally explode. Maybe we should make this happen, actually.
- Finally, the Cowboys lost a couple weeks ago, but anything that makes Dallas look stupid is fine by us. 'Cause Dallas sucks. Enjoy the Cowboys' season in 8 seconds:
Check in next week for more of the local sports zeitgeist!
