We at Houstonist are pretty tired of this foggy weather. Cold we can deal with, but the fog just makes everything kinda depressing. So as we head into the weekend, we need a shot (of booze) in the arm.

What better way to put a spring in your step (and a song in your heart) than with the combination of two of our favorite liquids: espresso and vodka. Sure, it's a bad idea to combine a depressant with a stimulant, but it's also a bad idea to rob a bank in the manner of this drink's namesake. Besides, this column isn't called "Houstonist Stay At Home And Watch Reruns" for a reason.
Taking its name and its insistence on strictly Italian espresso from the two films about dashing bank robbers in tiny British cars, the Italian Job Martini is a straight jolt that should have you thinking felonious thoughts in no time:
Italian Job Martini
1 oz. amaretto
1 oz. Bailey's
1 oz. Illy Espresso (or other espresso)
1 oz. vodka (we love Tito's, personally)
Shake with ice and serve in a chilled martini glass.
We also suppose that this would make a good cocktail if served over ice or neat with a little extra espresso. But whatever you do, resist the temptation to get behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper after you've had too much to drink. You may think you're as charming as Handsome Rob, but you're not. You're not even doing a very good British accent.
Have a drink we should spread to the masses? Send it along [jason at houstonist dot com], and we just may post it after some extensive testing.
Don't be a dumbass. Drink responsibly or take a cab.
