Houston Sports Blog Roundup 1/29 Edition

The Super Bowl is on Sunday, and naturally we'll be watching the game (and the commericals), but the real news around town is the up-and-down season the Rockets are having. They win with T-Mac, they win without T-mac, they definitely lose without Yao. If Rick Adelman can get everyone on the same page, they could still be formidable in the playoffs. Otherwise, we're looking at another five-and-out in the first round. On to the links:

- The Texans are going to be represented at the Super Bowl. In a commerical. And it's not making fun of us! Yay!

- The Dugout has a take on the Miguel Tejada story and the support he's getting in his homeland. Also, this strip ends with a joke so nerdy, someone's going to have to explain it to us.

- Battle Red Blog has been going through the entire Texans roster and looking at positional needs. Here's the look at tight ends; the rest of the series is very worthwhile too.

- The Astros are going to arbitration with Mark Loretta and Jose Valverde. It's the first time that the team has had to go to arbitration since Darryl Kile was with the team a decade ago. Brian McTaggart has an overview of the process.

- Marc Stein at ESPN thinks that Yao shouldn't be starting the All-Star Game for the West. The Dream Shake respectfully asks if they can have some of what he's having. Ok, not respectfully, but there are graphs.

- One of the high points for the Rockets this year, from a long term perspective has been the play of the youngsters, particularly Aaron Brooks. Once on the borderline of being sent to the NBDL, he's contributing a lot recently. Clutch Fans looks at a recent performance.

- The always awesome Keeper Notes has a finger on the pulse of the local soccer community. Even though it's the offseason for the MLS, there's still a lot going on, including USA v. Mexico at Reliant later this spring.

- Finally, the Texans have added another coach: defensive specialist and former head coach Ray Rhodes. Rhodes brings a buttload of experience to the game, and should be more aggressive than Rick Smith was in 2007. Then again, a three-toed sloth would be more aggressive than Smith. Texans Tailgate has a great profile of Rhodes.

Check in again next week for more of what the blogs are saying about our hometown teams!
