It's a struggle not to talk about how awesome the Super Bowl was last night, but since we're here to talk about Houston teams first and foremost, we'll have to stick to our mission. But how 'bout those commercials, huh?
We went and looked at the GoDaddy.com Danica Patrick one online; who knew that she could put both legs behind her head while playing "Smoke On The Water" on kazoo?
Here's what the blogosphere has been saying about our hometown teams:
- The New York Times has a profile on Rockets' GM Daryl Morey, who's being touted as the Billy Beane of basketball. Statistical analysis is great, and may be the next big breakthrough in basketball management, but if the Rockets miss the playoffs, Morey's going to have to try pretty hard to make sure he's not blamed.
- The Texans' Super Bowl commercial was great, just the right mix of personality and humor. You can find it on YouTube here, and some behind the scenes with Chester Pitts and Ephraim Salaam on the official Texans web site.
- So T-Mac is blaming the rims at Toyota Center for some of the team's woes. Really. We used to use that excuse when we played basketball; turns out we were just white. Remember: a good workman never blames his tools.
- The consistently fantastic Alyson Footer has one of her final Astros mailbags until spring training. Say it with us: pitchers and catchers report in two weeks!
- On the other end of the spectrum, the Chron's Brian McTaggart tries to be a stand-up comedian about the Astros. Don't forget to tip your waitresses, folks, they work hard. Try the buffet. The 8pm show is not the same as the 6:30, so stick around! Blerg.
That's about it. We're officially down to just the Rockets right now, so try to keep a happy face until the NFL Draft and Spring Training. Or they could just fix the rims at the Toyota Center.
