Houstonist iMix: February

Our first iMix of the year (yes, we know we missed last month, we were suffering a hangover after New Years) is a nice blend of now and then. We start off with Noah Lennox, also known as Panda Bear, with his 12 1/2 minute epic "Bros," which comes from Pitchfork's 2007 Album of the Year Person Pitch. Other recent releases include singer/songwriters Nicole Atkins, Josh Ritter, and Brett Dennen, along with one of Rolling Stone magazine's "Artists To Watch in 2008", MGMT, and some good club music from Crystal Castles vs. Health.

Houstonist still likes its classics, though. From the 90's, we have southern-flavored rock from Southern Culture On the Skids and a favorite from Ben Folds Five's album Whatever and Ever, Amen. Our sole 80's entry comes from L.A. new wave band The Sparks. Finally, one of our contributors has spent a little too much time in his 1975 Camaro: he suggested Led Zeppelin and Foreigner.

A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two that they can’t get enough of right now. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.

Let us know what you think, and tell us what's currently in high rotation on your iPod.
