Former Houston Oilers linebacker John Grimsley was found dead in his Missouri City home this morning. After receiving a 911 emergency call from the Grimsley household, police rushed to the scene at 9:00am only to find a lifeless body.

An autopsy is set to be performed by the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office, however initial reports claim that an accidental gunshot wound was the cause of the untimely death.

Grimsley was a sixth round NFL draft pick out of Kentucky in 1984. Originally from Canton, Ohio, he played for the Oilers from 1984-1990 and for the Miami Dolphins from 1992-1993. The former Wildcat earned a Pro Bowl bid in 1988 and was named to the NFL All-Pro team in 1989.

After football Grimsley pursued his passions of hunting and fishing and started two new companies – World Class Expeditions and Wilderness Ventures. He was last publicly spotted at the Super Bowl in Arizona, spending time with former teammates and colleagues.

Grimsley is survived by his wife and two college-age sons.
