Houston Set for No. 1 Memphis

Most Memphis Tigers fans consider tonight's game against Houston just another bump in the road to a perfect season, but to Houston head coach Tom Penders, tonight's match-up against No. 1 Memphis could be the key to unlocking their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with an upset win.

Houston (18-4, 7-1) travels to Memphis (23-0, 9-0) to meet for the second time in two weeks. Although the Cougars are off to their best start since the 1991-92 season, the Cougars remain a bubble team that could be snubbed with a 25 + win season because of their inability to beat a top 50 Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) team. Houston's only "statement" win came against a lowly Kentucky team on December 18, but failed chances against Massachusetts, Arizona and Memphis have hurt the Cougars' cause in early NCAA bid projections.

Coach Penders will have his team ready and Memphis coach John Calipari knows what this game means to Houston. "This is their NCAA Tournament game," Tigers coach John Calipari said. "We're going to have to worry about us getting better, playing to our capabilities, but it's not going to be an easy game. They're playing like a cornered animal and they're a good team. If they beat us, they're off the bubble and in the NCAA Tournament."

The Cougars will be led tonight by C-USA Player of the Week, Robert McKiver (21.2 PPG) and teammates Dion Dowell (11.6 PPG) and Lanny Smith (91 assists). If Houston is going to upset Memphis tonight, they're going to have to improve from their last meeting against the Tigers where they shot only 25% (6-for-24) from behind the arc and 35.3% overall from the field. A win would send shockwaves through the NCAA world, but a loss will keep Houston on the outside fighting to get in.

Notes: Houston is 2-10 all-time against No. 1 ranked teams. They're last win against a No. 1 team was against Arkansas in 1978.

Wow, you called up Calipari and got a comment?

That's pretty impressive (unless you didn't ring him up, and simply forgot to credit the source that did).
