::Miwa Yanagi Panel Discussion: A Conversation about Feminine Beauty::

Well, our eyes popped out of our skulls when we saw this, not just for the topic and the photography, but also because sharp-as-a-tack Peggy Orenstein is coming to town to be a part of this panel at the MFAH. She and several Houston experts will discuss Miwa Yanagi's photography and the themes it encapsulates: gender, identity, body image, age, feminism, and beauty, and how these concerns resound in present-day consumer, media, professional, and social cultures.

This program is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Miwa Yanagi Deutsche Bank Collection, on view at the MFAH from February 10 through May 4.

Expect to hear some smart words from the other panelists:

Elizabeth Gregory, Associate Professor and Director of Women´s Studies, University of Houston Department of English (who will also moderate)

Tracy Xavia Karner, Director of Visual Studies, University of Houston

• James Hollis, Director, The Jung Center, Houston

Date: Monday February 18th
