(Free) Concert Preview: The Wild Moccasins & Sabra Laval at Boondocks

We're noticing a trend in great local bands: the older we get, the younger they get. The Wild Moccasins just happen to be one of those bands.

Don't get us wrong. Despite our aging ways, it's refreshing to find a local band that can take the sensibilities of twangy pop/rock that subliminally (or blatantly) encourages the audience to interact . The gang of five take subtle power pop melodies and give it a folk twist, not unlike more national acts like Hello Saferide or Okkervil River's more recent material. They're kind of a Secret Saturday Show staple nowadays, and rightfully so:

Also on the bill is local songstress Sabra Laval. Listening to her music gives us the impression she came into this world with a guitar in hand, although her MySpace tells us otherwise. Her voice carries a severity and honesty that we find is uncommon, since most singer/songwriters tend to contrive a sense of sincerity. Who knows? Maybe Laval is too, but we get the impression that she's all heart, not to mention talent.

Revitalize yourself with the The Wild Moccasins or listen intently to Sabra Laval. Either way, they're both bound to be amazing sets and they're both free.
