West Texas, specifically Marfa, may be No Country for Old Men, but it certainly seems to be the place for making Academy Award winning films. Speaking of winning, one lucky Houston Fiesta shopper hit it big in the Texas Lotto.

>> TSU's president calls for entrance standard: The Chronicle reports that new TSU president John Rudley is moving toward more stringent admissions standards for the embattled university. President Rudley is taking over the helm of at Texas' largest historically black university and is tasked with getting the school back in shape after the string of recent adversity. TSU currently admits students who have passed the high school equivalency exam. Unfortunately a passing score on the GED does not necessarily equate to a student being ready for the academic (and social) challenges of a university setting which results in poor graduation and retention results for the institution. Rudley and his team are likely to recommend following the standards in place at Prairie View. Although tightening standards may help TSU, previous attempts have met with strong opposition. Good luck, Sheriff President Rudley.

>> Information isn't reserved for books:
Librarians are more than Dewey Decimal mavens; they are purveyors of knowledge the Information Age per the Carolyn Feibel piece on Chron.com. The message is clear: the Internet may hold terrabytes of information, but what good is that data if you can not locate what you need. While many turn to search engines to find what they need, reference librarian Saima Kadir says, "There's this information overload. People will dead-end on Google." Houstonist can attest to that fact. Aside from considering librarians walking, talking conduits to the Internet, Houstonians should take advantage of their tax dollars at work and explore the library. Get a Power Card and check it out.

>> Today's weather: Welcome to the 80s. No, please don't put on those leg warmers. We're talking about the temp. Your morning will start off in the low 60s, but the mercury red stuff will creep up to 80 this afternoon. There's a 20% chance of dampness this evening, but we wouldn't count on it.
