Houstonist iMix: March (SXSW edition)

Every March, Houstonist takes a little pilgrimage up to Austin to check out our favorite music conference: SXSW. With over a thousands artists playing in about a hundred venues, we know we can’t catch them all. So, we decided to dedicate this month’s Houstonist iMix to those acts that we’re looking forward to seeing this year (since we limited our iMix to 16 songs, we’re only including 1% of the artists performing). Again, their music has to be on iTunes in order to be on the iMix, which eliminates many of our favorite newer and local bands that will be playing.

Some newer acts include Australia’s Liam Finn, the New York experimental band Yeasayer, Texas indie-rock band This Will Destroy You, U.K.’s Lightspeed Champion, Atlanta female singer/songwriter Kaki King.

SXSW isn’t just about new artists. Older favorites, like The Donnas, Nada Surf, Ice Cube, Billy Bragg, and Daniel Lanois will be performing, too. Texas is well represented, too: Old 97’s and Asylum Street Spankers, for example. Many Houston bands will be playing, too.

A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two of their favorite 2008 SXSW artists. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.
