Two years ago marked the debut of Baltimore's dreamy pop duo Beach House with their self-titled release. It was good stuff.
We find ourselves in March of 2008 (already?) and Beach House has served up another album for our reviewing pleasure. Devotion, released last week, features some of the same that Beach House's self-titled album had: the flawless and foolproof voice of Victoria Legrand, the melodies on strings and keys played by Alex Scally and a generally haunting and enthralling appeal. With Devotion, they've refined their already distinctive sound and feature a cover of Daniel Johnston's "Some Things Last a Long Time" to boot.
The band is actually making a stop in Houston on Thursday, March 6 at Walter's on Washington, leaving us in a mess of giddiness and anticipation. Along with Beach House are openers The Papercuts, which also features Beach House's Scally.
If you're having doubts, let's break this down for you: if you're a local music freak with a taste for the Hearts of Animals-esque leading female vocals accompanied with minimal instrumentation, you should go to Beach House. If you're a Pitchfork-loving, indie music head with an unhealthy obsession with Nico or Fiery Furnaces, you should go to Beach House. Finally, if you think you like music, you should go to Beach House.
We apologize for coming out so strong, but we can't help it. You know what else we can't help? Showing you the fantastic visual interpertation of Beach House's "You Came To Me."
