Yesterday was the second of the Super Tuesdays for this Presidential Election year and included primary elections in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont. Houstonist could careless about who wins. We're just excited to see the record turnout at the polls. We all win when that happens. Congratulations, Houston, and all you Texans that don't live in our kickass town.

Super Tuesday...refers to the Tuesday in February or March of a presidential election year when the greatest number of states hold primary elections to select delegates to national conventions at which each party's presidential candidates are officially nominated. That Tuesday was February 5th. But, it did not include Texas so it couldn't have been all that. Click here for more on the delegate selection process courtesy of ABC13. Keep reading for more on last night's primary results.
>> McCain Earns Republican Nod: The Chronicle got their man last night as McCain won enough delegates to secure the Republican party nomination. McCain's performance in the four-state primary gave him the 1,191 required delegates. Mike Huckabee's withdrawal added a final flourish to the evening. The Arizona Senator, now the GOP candidate, will visit President Bush, to whom he lost the nomination in 2000, at the White House following an invitation from Dubya.
>> Clinton Wins Texas Primary: In the Senator showdown, Hilary Clinton pulled out a victory over Barack Obama in an extremely close Texas Democratic primary. Clinton received 51 percent of the vote to Obama's 47 percent. However, Sen. Obama still leads Sen. Clinton in the delegate race 1,477 to 1,391 in the contest to reach 2,025 and lock-in the Democratic nomination. Clinton won the land war in Texas with support in more precincts across the state. However, the Google Maps primary tracker depicts Obama carrying larger Texas metropolises like Dallas-Ft. Worth, the Austin-San Antonio corridor and Houston where he earned 57 percent of the vote in Harris County.
>> Investigation Launched Into Vote Stealing: KPRC's Click2 Houston reports that some Third Ward residents were turned away from the polls on Super Tuesday. The voters were told that absentee ballots had already been filed on their behalf. Senior Citizens reported being visited by solicitors canvasing the Precinct 219 neighborhood. These individuals offered early voting assistance to the seniors. The scammers were able to the false ballots without signature, which constitutes vote stealing. The Harris County DA's office is investigating the charges.
>> Elections Were Held for Local Posts Too: Local blogger Charles Kuffner of Off the Kuff posted excellent summaries of the Democratic and Republican races in Texas. Want the gory details? Read OTK; we'll hit the high points. Dems outnumbered the GOP at the polls nearly two-to-one, which was in keeping with the early voting showing for both parties. Rick Noriega avoided a run off by winning outright a four horse race with 51 percent of the vote. Ron Paul was re-elected to his Congressional post. And, that flaxen haired vixen, Shelly Sekula-Gibbs, will face a run-off against Pete Olson for CD22. Houstonist does not really care who wins that race, but like Nick Anderson says, "She would give [us] a lot of material."
>> Today's weather: Run-of-the-Mill Wednesday will be ho-hum on the weather front with a high of 71 and lows in the mid-50s. Expect to see a drizzle or two in the evening with a 20 percent chance of showers outside your house. Houstonist hopes there is a 100 percent change you'll shower inside your house.
