Spring has sprung Houston - at least in terms of Daylight Saving Time. Hopefully your sleep pattern got back to normal last night. Apparently there is a risk of folks not sleeping enough now that daylight will be around longer in the evenings. Huh. We thought our sleep issues were due to staying out until the wee hours playing urban disc golf in Midtown.

>> Lake Jackson teen awarded Silver Star for gallantry in Afghanistan: Army Specialist Monica Brown was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry for saving the lives of fellow soldiers following the destruction of their Humvee by a road side bomb. Brown becomes only the second woman since World War II to receive the medal. The 19 year-old Lake Jackson native says that she "...did not really think about anything except for getting the guys to a safer location and getting them taken care of and getting them out of there" according to the AP report cited in The Chronicle. What's to care about when enemy insurgents are shooting at you and mortar rounds are exploding around you? She and two comrades dragged the wounded 500 meters from the disable vehicle which was being shredded by exploding ammunition contained inside. A combat medic, Brown administered aid to the five wounded soldiers until they were evacuated on a helicopter. Specialist Brown will be awarded the medal upon her return from Afghanistan scheduled for late April.

>> Pollution showdown looms in Houston: Politicians and polluters will square off shortly over a discrepancy between industry reported emissions and the results of emissions testing conducted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. ABC 13 reports that cancer causing benzene levels are higher now than four months ago when Mayor White called for polluters to reign in their toxic output. The industrial players are citing 12 percent decline in pollutants as a reason for accolades. However, the numbers, which were collected between 2004 and 2006 do not jibe with the self-reported numbers provided by the industrialists.

>> Today's weather: Hope you brought you duck boots with you to the office. There's an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms today. The temperature will be a relatively balmy 67 degree on the F scale at its peak before descending to 53 degrees in the evening.
