Morning Roundup: Double Deuce Edition

Happy Monday, Houston! Today's is St. Patrick's Day, also known as, "I'm really [insert nationality] but I'm going to pretend to be Irish so you'll think I'm Cool Day." Irish Catholics got their green beer buzz installed on Saturday because of Holy Week. The rest of you should take a long lunch today to pull down a draught of Guinness and eat some colcannon. Erin Go Bragh!

>> Alston, Rockets take over lead in West with No. 22: Houstonist hopes the critics have a boat load of lip balm because Mutombo will be expecting a whole new round of smooches on his derrier as the Rockets bested the Lakers by a dozen to win their 22nd in a row and break the tie atop the NBA's Western Conference. The Rocket's victory puts them a game ahead of the L.A. Bryants Lakers - a team many thought would end the streak. Rafer Alston fueled the Houston squad with 31 points - knocking down eight three pointers in 39 minutes. Luis Scola played Robin to Alston's Batman with a double-double as Houston's resident Superman was laying bricks for his new Fortress of Solitude. Shane Battier played shut-down defense on Kobe all night long. Why o'why couldn't have someone asked Bryant about Battier's blanket defense? The Rockets' run reminds of the 2005 Astros who started chalking up Ws when it counted and made it to the World Series. But that was baseball and this is hoops. Speaking of roundball, The Longhorns, Aggies and Bears are all going to the show.

>> Watch This! Film Festival to Feature Movies Made by UH Community, Faculty: Hey, Cougars! No, not those kind; we're talking University of Houston cougs only. Fire up your digital video cameras and start rolling. The s.o.b. Houston ArtBlog rebroadcast the UH press release announcing the Watch This! film festival, which is open to entries from students, faculty and staff affiliated with UH. Flicks need to have a run time of 15 minutes or less and should be categorized as narrative, documentary or experimental. The latter category has us a bit worried; try not to hurt yourselves filming your experiments. It's probably a good idea to use a tripod.

>> Today's weather: Run-of-the-mill Spring time weather is upon us. A high of 79 will be accompanied by a low of 66. Strong winds indicate that showers are heading our way as a 30% chance of rain jumps up to 40% later in the day.

>> In brief: Go Tejano Day protestors don't spoil the show ... Sunday was rough for motorcyclists as two die ... Corsicana cockfighters busted ... Houston soldier killed in Iraq ... Freeways aren't pedestrian friendly. Duh.
