::How do you say 'suspense' in French?::

Tonight, the Tournées French Film Festival presents a screening of the award-winning 2005 film Caché (or Hidden for the Franco-illiterate) at Rice University.

Directed by Austrian director Michael Haneke, who most recently directed the English-speaking remake to 1997’s Funny Games, the film’s plot circles around the life of successful literary critic and television host Georges (played by Daniel Auteuil), his book publishing wife (the always amazing Juliette Binoche) and son. Georges gets hot under the collar when he starts receiving mysterious video tapes filled with hidden camera footage of the television personality and his family. The tapes keep arriving and get increasingly disturbing, opening the doors to Georges hidden past.

The film won a slew of awards after its release, including “Best Director” at the Cannes Film Festival, “Best film” and “Best Actor” for Auteuil at the European Film Awards and “Best Foreign Language Film” at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, and is recognized as much for its creativity as it is for its less-than-subtle socio-political commentary.
