We know how busy things can get this time of year – whether it’s work, school, or whatever, we just seem to be running around like crazy. That’s why lately, we’ve been craving some downtime, listening to some of our laidback favorites. Some of those favorites include French actress (and sometimes musician) Julie Delpy, recent big Grammy winner Herbie Hancock’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River” (with Corinne Bailey Rae on vocals), new music from Chicago’s indie songwriter Andrew Bird, folker Gillian Welch, haunting vocals from the late Mark Sandman and his band Morphine, and a track from Beth Orton’s 2002’s Daybreaker.
Don’t get us wrong, we still like to move – so we included a few of those on here, too. Out iMix begins with some garage rock from Athen, Georgia (The Whigs), a classic from Scottish band The Waterboys, one of our favorite sing-a-long tracks from Pete Yorn’s debut album, and Donovan’s classic “Sunshine Superman.”
A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two that they're listening to now. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.
