Great news!! If you have not checked the list of participating eateries in the Dining Out For Life list, Niko Niko's is participating!!! Houstonist had lunch w/ a couple of peeps this week. As always, it was delish - we chose rice for our starch to accompany the gyro plate, it's creamy and flavorful - we'd love the recipe, just saying. We've had the potatoes and the fries previously, both are very good choices, as well. The portions are huge, and we love the gyro plate, in particular because you get a choice of side, a little pita, lots of luscious gyro meat, topped with red onion and tomato and yummy sauce and a bonus dolmade on the top. We can't seem to consume more than half of our plate in one sitting - no matter how hard we try.
Our companions had the gyro sandwich, a chicken philly and some falafel. Everything looked great, and we were the only wimp who did not polish off the entire plate and very nearly lick the plate clean. Houstonist has sampled quite a few menu items, as we hit Niko's for lunch about once a month or more. The greek passion fruit tea is quite good as well, and not overbearingly fruity. It is handy of them to give you go cups, we always take some with us. Our total food bill between the three of us was just over $34, which, on April 24th converts to an $11 donation and a greek food inspired nap. If you haven't been to Niko Niko's before, we recommend you give them a try on the 24th for lunch or dinner. Since the meals are so large, you may need to take a couple of pieces of baklava to go, for a nice afternoon snack.
