The Green gets Discovered

houston_park.jpgCelebrate the opening of our new Downtown green space, Discovery Green , this weekend at the Discovery Green Family Day on Sunday, April 13th.

It seems like just yesterday we were all in an uproar about the hideous name choice. And here we are now, able to frolick in her glory.

Enjoy 12 acres of urban green space including a one-acre lake, children’s playground, interactive water features, amphitheater stage and slope, small and large dog runs, public art works, HPL Express, open lawns and great restaurants.

Family Day Highlights

* Commencing with the Budweiser Clydesdales (um, FAMILY day?)
* Ribbon Cutting by Mayor Bill White (bring it on, Billy!)
* Car Horn Concerto by The Art Guys & UH Music students and Art Cars (sweeeet)
* Performances by Kaminari Taiko Drummers (now we're talking)
* Citizens for Animal Protection Dog Costume Contest (we n eed to protect dog costumes? is there a shortage? Have they checked PetSmart?)

So bring out the rugrats, or dress your dog up in a costume (while they are still available), and head out to the park to enjoy some grass under your feet in the middle of downtown.
