Wandy Rodriguez's home dominance continued on a beautiful day at Minute Maid Park on Sunday as he pitched seven strong innings while giving up only one earned run and leading the Astros past the Marlins 5-1.
Rodriguez (1-0, 2.33) breezed through the Florida Marlins line-up with his only hiccup being a Josh Willingham home run in the fourth inning. In two home starts at Minute Maid Park this year, Wandy has given up only one run in 14 1/3 innings.
The Houston offense was lead by Texans Michael Bourn and J.R. Towles as both contributed home runs to help Wandy's cause. Also, Rice University alum Lance Berkman chipped in on the day as he belted an RBI double to left field to give the Astros a 5-1 cushion.
The Astros are off today as they travel to Pennsylvania for a three game set against the Phillies on Tuesday.
Notes: Catcher J.R. Towles had to leave Sunday's game after he was hit in the hand by a fastball in the eighth inning. X-rays were negative and he is listed as day-to-day.
