Houstonist Haikus

A recent contest
rages from within my walls:
Who creeps me out most?

Roaches slip from first,
ceding ground to underbugs,
slithering silverfish.

Smaller, thankfully,
But weirder and creeper--
almost alien.

Distant descendants
of fossilized trilobites?
In bathrooms they dwell.

Shampoo residue
They nibble upon. And books!
Bizarre; unsettling.

In winter they thrived,
these ugly rolypolys.
Now spring they're timid
