A recent contest
rages from within my walls:
Who creeps me out most?
Roaches slip from first,
ceding ground to underbugs,
slithering silverfish.
Smaller, thankfully,
But weirder and creeper--
almost alien.
Distant descendants
of fossilized trilobites?
In bathrooms they dwell.
Shampoo residue
They nibble upon. And books!
Bizarre; unsettling.
In winter they thrived,
these ugly rolypolys.
Now spring they're timid
