Every day this week, Houstonist will feature an event scheduled in conjunction with Lawndale Art Center's 20th Century Modern Market.
Today: Opening of The Hour: Cocktail Time Design 1930-1980
Ah, cocktail time — one of Houstonist's favorite times of the day, not least because it can start anytime and go as long as we want it to. But even drunken debauchery needs a touch of class every once in a while, we think, which is why we can't wait to see The Hour: Cocktail Time Design, an exhibition of glassware, cocktail shakers, ashtrays and books produced between 1930 and 1980. The 100-plus objects were assembled by mid-century modern collector Don Browne — no word on whether Browne has personally tried every piece in the collection.
The Hour is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and April 28 and 29 in the third-floor project space gallery at Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main St.. Lawndale will hold a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the exhibition will also be open during the Modern Market preview party, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
