Our iMix leads off with a track from the second Raconteurs album – the project is so good it makes us think that anything Jack White touches turns to gold. Local favorite Hayes Carll’s tongue-in-cheek “She Left Me for Jesus” is included, followed by two newer bands that are getting a lot of press these days: NYC’s indie-pop band Vampire Weekend and L.A.’s psychedelic rock Dengue Fever. Folk punk band Against Me! Got some airtime this past year with “Trash Unreal,” but for those of us who haven’t tuned into commercial radio in years, we thought we’d add it to the iMix. French electronic band M83 is featured with their song “Kim & Jessie.”
We also included a few older favorites: Sondre Lerche’s clever-lyric-ed “Two Way Monologue,” Over The Rhine’s “If A Song Could Be President” (this should be this year’s overall presidential campaign song), a track from Australian Ben Lee’s 2005 album, and more.
A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two that they're listening to now. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.
