The Wainwright family isn’t lacking in talent. Singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III’s father was an editor and columnist for Life magazine, while two of his children, Rufus and Martha, are singer/songwriters themselves. (Loudon wrote a few songs about his kids, including the ironic breastfeeding song "Rufus Is a Tit Man".)
Loudon Wainwright III is best known for his 70’s novelty hit “Dead Skunk,” but, novelty songs aside, his artistic abilities were more in-line with Bob Dylan than Weird Al Yankovic. Last year, he was asked to score the film Knocked Up (yes, we’re serious, that film had a score), and the result was the critically acclaimed album Strange Weirdos.
Bend Studio is bringing Loudon to Houston, to one of our new favorite venues part-time music venues, Nia Moves. The setting is by far one of the most intimate settings. Houstonist caught Bob Schneider there a few weeks ago, and felt like we were in his living room (or his yoga room, if he has one). One word of caution” no shoes allowed inside, so wear clean socks.
