Houstonist Flickr Photo of the Day - Tree and Water

Tree and Water

Tree and Water
by laanba

Taken near the San Jacinto Monument we really like this shot of this lone tree in the water. Something about the starkness of this shot combined with those perfect puffy clouds.

Is everyone aware that before the ground sank most of the land around San Jacinto Monument area was ABOVE water? That tree in the photo most likely started out on dry land.
I remember in the late 70's walking on an asphalt road near the Monument that was 3-4 feet underwater. The crabbing was great, though!

Awww, thanks Houstonist. Starkness is one reason I like this photo. It just doesn't look like anything else around it.

Cuervo, thanks for the info. The tree really looks out of place in the water (another reason I like it) and that may explain why.
