Big Puma Named NL Player of the Week

For the second time in three weeks, Lance Berkman was named National League Player of the Week, presented by Bank of America, for the week of May 5-11. Berkman, who continues his Triple Crown chase, put up staggering numbers last week.
Berkman's .682 AVG (15-for-22) was tops among MLB hitters. He also had two home runs, four doubles, 10 runs scored, a .741 on-base percentage and a mind boggling 1.136 slugging percentage. Berkman also managed to tie the Astros franchise record with eight straight hits last week as well.
For the season, Berkman has a .382 AVG, 12 HR's and a NL leading 36 RBI. Along with leading the Astros a chance back into the playoffs, Berkman is making an early run at the Triple Crown. The last NL player to win this rare, coveted award was Joe Medwick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1937.
Notes: Carlos Lee and Chris Sampson were also nominated for the NL Player of the Week Award.
