Movies for Mommies (and Daddies)

051308_alamo.jpgHoustonist recognizes that not all stay-at-home moms (or dads) lose complete and total interest in pop culture. And, fortunately, so do the Alamo Drafthouse and the Angelika Film Center.

Normally, the Alamo Drafthouse's policy strictly forbids any children under the age of 6 as well as unaccompanied children under the age of 18. However, every Tuesday the cinema hosts Baby Day, where your hip, movie-loving self and your children under the age of 6 are welcome during the early matinee showings of first-run movies (not the Troma flicks; sorry, folks). And not only are your little ones welcome: Their admission is free!

Unfortunately, the only two Alamo Dratfhouses in town are located in far west Houston. But luckily for inner-Looper moms and dads, there's also an option downtown.

The Angelika Film Center takes this concept one step further and offers Crybaby Matinees on Friday and Saturday mornings at 11:45 a.m. As with Alamo, your children under the age of 5 are admitted for free, and changing tables are even provided for those with tiny ones.

If Houstonist had children, you can be sure we would be at these matinees nearly every week, catching first-rate indie movies or happily munching on hot wings with our kids.
